A Computer Science and Robotics themed trip to London, UK
Here's a typical 5-7 day itinerary, from £749
Day 1: Arrival
Arrival in London, transfer to accommodation by private coach.
Day 2: Drones and Markets
Drone programming workshop: students will program drones to fly in formation using the Swift programming language (no prior experience needed).
Visit to Camden Market: home to over 1000 shops and stalls selling everything from unique clothing to food - a popular option as students can choose exactly what they want to eat.
Day 3: Bletchley Park
Visit to Amazon Fresh: students will choose their packed lunch themselves and simply walk out in this AI powered shop. Ethics discussions can be had - is it OK to replace human workers if it means a faster and potentially cheaper shopping experience?
Bletchley Park: alongside a hands-on codebreaking workshop, students will also tour the site and learn about its history in WW2, plus have time to interact with exhibits across the park relating to cryptography and the development of the first computing machines.
National Museum of Computing: students can take part in an assembly code programming workshop or others, plus see 70Mb hard drives the size of washing machines and other early computing equipment before relaxing in the hall of vintage computers and games.
VR immersive experience: up to eight students at a time can fight or collaborate in free roam VR. Those not playing will have the chance to try other forms of VR or relax with games consoles while awaiting their turn in the arena.
Day 4: Sights of London
University visit/Sightseeing in London: depending on the age of the students, a visit and campus tour of one of London's universities is possible, and of course a walking tour from Buckingham Palace to the Tower of London along the South Bank to see London's most famous sights is an essential part of any trip to London.
London Dungeon: learn about the history of London in a scary way...
London Eye/Gamebox: see all of London at once (when the weather is nice)? Or compete with others in a virtual version of Squid Game?
Ice skating disco/arcade/bowling: a fun way to wind down the day.
Day 5: Robot Wars
Robot building and fighting workshop: students will be divided into small teams of 4-6 to design and construct remote control robots weighing around 12kg. Then comes the best part - each team has to compete in a football tournament, and then fight against the other robots in the arena - which team will create the best robot?
Westfield Shepherd’s Bush: students who want to take advantage of the shopping opportunities London has to offer will appreciate time to explore this shopping centre.
Day 6: Science
Escape room/immersive theatre: what better way to start the morning than an escape room challenge requiring teamwork and fast thinking? Alternative options can include immersive theatre experiences combining AR or VR with live acting to create a performance that the audience is part of.
Science Museum: time to explore in small groups. History of computing? Mathematics or space? The Science Museum maintains interesting exhibitions with hands-on components.
Shopping tour of Oxford St and Covent Garden: central London offers a multitude of shopping options, and this can be tailored depending on the interests of the group - do they want to visit the world's largest toy shop? Or are fashion brands more their thing?
Inamo interactive restaurant for final meal: fully interactive tables allow students to play games against each other or show off their creativity while awaiting their Asian fusion tasting menu.
Day 7: Return
Transfer to airport by private coach, return flight to home country.
Extra activities can be added on travel days depending on flight timings, and the entire itinerary can be shortened, lengthened or customised to suit your preferences. For example, day trips to Cambridge to visit The Centre for Computing History and to punt along the river are easy to organise - let us know your needs or ask us for suggestions!
