A Geography themed trip to Amalfi Coast, Italy

Here's a typical 5-7 day itinerary, from £849

Day 1: Arrival

Arrival in Naples, transfer to accommodation by private coach.
Solfatara, Campi Flegrei: tour the lunar landscapes and steaming sulfurous waters in this active volcanic crater within the Phlegraean Fields whilst learning about plate tectonics.

Day 2: Volcanoes and Romans

Vesuvius: climb to the crater rim of this famous volcano, looking for evidence of past eruptions and lava flows in the landscape.
Herculaneum: explore this Roman town excavated from the ash of Vesuvius' most infamous eruption, either guided to learn about the history or as part of a mapping challenge in small groups.

Day 3: Capri

Coastal landform boat tour: on the way to Capri island for this whole day excursion, see stacks, sea arches and other marks of coastal erosion as you sail along the Amalfi Coast.
Capri: study the impact of tourism on this small but beautiful Italian island in the Gulf of Naples, and enjoy the opportunity to find interesting souvenirs of Italy.

Day 4: Ash and Water

Pompeii: take in the highlights of this formerly buried Roman city.
Valle dell'Orso water park: in the summer months, cool off and enjoy the slides at this water park. In cooler weather, enjoy a relaxing visit to Stufe Di Nerone thermal baths and spa instead!
Gelato making class: learn all about making traditional Italian gelato at one of Italy's oldest ice cream shops.

Day 5: Amalfi Coast and Sorrento

Amalfi Coast: see the coastal towns along the Amalfi Coast and look at the urban development of Sorrento before enjoying time at the beach and to explore the small boutiques of Sorrento. It is also possible to arrange a visit to a local farm to taste olive oils and lemons, learn how mozzarella is made before enjoying a pizza making class.
Inn Bufalito: enjoy an excellent final dinner at this restaurant specialising in mozzarella.
Bowling: a fun way to wind down the day.

Day 6: Return

Transfer to airport by private coach, return flight to home country.

Extra activities can be added on travel days depending on flight timings, and the entire itinerary can be shortened, lengthened or customised to suit your preferences. For example, adding an extra day or two and a trip to Rome at the beginning or end of the tour is highly recommended with visits to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Catacombs and other historical and Roman sights. It is generally possible to arrange the outward or inward flights for your group to Rome in order to reduce travel time.
